BARREIRO OAK WOODS

Very close to Castro Laboriero, in the northwest corner of the Peneda Gerês National Park, can be found a magnificent oak woodland surrounded by a remarkable landscape.

This is Barreiro Oak Wood which stands out in the landscape of the valley of the Laboreiro river, known locally as the ‘Inverneiras’ (winter settlement) valley. This valley provides for an extremely interesting experience, both for the possibility to explore the leafy Barreiro woodlands, discovering their biodiversity and the wonderful sensation that a grove of this kind offers us, as well as for the opportunity to get to know the heritage and culture of the true people of Castro Laboreiro and other people who have been here many, many years beforehand.

This is probably one of the best places in the area to enjoy the colours, smells and sounds of autumn. Green gives way to the golden and orange tones of autumn, before the winter sets in, to once again transform the landscape
